WHAT A SPLASH: Purpose-build fishing jetty for Perth northern suburb
Cook Labor Government is committing $2 million to deliver the fishing platform project ahead of its planned opening in 2027.
Funding has been allocated to the City of Wanneroo to build the fishing platform at Quinns Rock, adjacent to the Frederick Stubbs car park. The site was chosen following a feasibility study and extensive community consultation.
The structure will measure 4 metres wide and 17.3 metres long, and will be fitted with solar-powered lighting, bench seating, safety ladders, a solar-powered seawater pump and a fish cleaning station.
A two-metre-wide access pathway from the car park to the platform will ensure the facility is accessible to people of all abilities, with Fisheries Minister Jackie Jarvis describing it as a significant addition to the region's coastal infrastructure.
"The Quinns Rocks area is known as a great spot for catching herring, whiting, mulloway and tailor, however there are currently no designated fishing facilities in the area," Ms Jarvis said.
"The construction of this new platform is a great initiative that will bring locals and visitors to the area and support a vibrant and inclusive community."

The project fulfils an election commitment made ahead of the 2025 state election, with construction expected to begin in November this year and the platform set to open to the public in the first half of 2027.
Mindarie MLA Mark Folkard, whose electorate takes in the Quinns Rocks area, welcomed the announcement and praised the City of Wanneroo for progressing the project.
"I am proud to see the investment of the Cook Labor Government in our local community with this $2 million election commitment," Mr Folkard said.
"This will enhance all abilities coastal infrastructure for the local community and provide a safe and accessible area for everyone to enjoy a day out fishing."
The platform is the latest in a series of recreational fishing investments by the state government, which has also backed artificial reef programs and fish aggregating devices across WA waters.
Quinns Rocks sits about 40 kilometres north of the Perth CBD and is a popular destination for families and weekend fishers, though the absence of any formal fishing infrastructure has long been a frustration for local anglers.
The City of Wanneroo will oversee delivery of the project.
