Rideshare driver charged after baby killed in Lynwood car crash

A seven month old baby is dead and a rideshare driver is facing serious charges after a pre-dawn crash in Perth's south-east left three passengers fighting for their lives.

The rideshare driver driving a silver Toyota Kluger veered off Nicholson Road in Lynwood just before 3.40am Saturday, ploughing into a tree and causing significant damage to nearby fences and a bus stop.

Inside the vehicle were a 32-year-old woman and two young children. All three were taken to hospital in a serious condition. The youngest — a seven-month-old — did not survive, dying later at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

The 35-year-old driver escaped with minor injuries and has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and two counts of dangerous driving occasioning bodily harm.

WA Police are investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash and are calling on anyone with information, including those who may have seen the vehicle travelling through the area beforehand, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
